Our Story

We wanted to change everything—even when we were kids.

Hi there. I’m Remy, and my co–founder is Louis. We met in middle school when we were just 11–years-old. At 13 years old, we started playing a video game named Dofus and ended up selling virtual money for actual money and made a few thousand dollars before our parents shut down the entire operation. We’ve been friends ever since.

A few years ago, we witnessed the ascent of blockchain. Louis was coding predictive market algorithms, and I was working in alternative investments at BlackRock, so we quickly understood the opportunity. We convinced some local banks to invest in us, and we turned around and invested it all. As you can imagine, it paid off in ways we would never imagine. This gave us a very unique perspective on the world – and more importantly – realizing that there were so many real problems that we now wanted to solve.

One that stood out to us, being that we had been working with computers our entire childhood, was how to interact with computers more efficiently. It’s a slow process. We started working on ideas on how to solve this. And thus, Metabrain was born.

The Science

Interacting with a computer is slow. We aim to make it faster.

We type at 50 words-per-minute and talk at 150 words-per-minute. Consider this: computers communicate with each other 200,000,000x faster than humans communicate with computers.

Scientifically there are two ways to connect with a computer without using your hands and voice: invasive and non-invasive methods on your brain.

Invasive interfaces can leverage recent advances in nanotechnology and electronics to minimize the surgery invasiveness, increase the number of electrodes and therefore the number of neurons you could record from.

Non-Invasive interfaces can leverage recent advances in photonics, electronics and computational imaging to overcome the major limitation of light scattering in brain tissue and therefore improve the spatial resolution.

The Metabrain solution is to build a multi-wave imaging technique to solve the major challenges that both techniques have. Our work is based on a decade of research at the top physics research institutes (ESPCI, ENS).
